Big Barn Media founder Andrew Wilks grew up on the Isle of Wight. He began his broadcast career at BBC TV Centre in the late 1980’s. Based in the VT and Telecine Department as an Assistant Editor, he worked on a vast range of programmes that included “One Foot In The Grave”, “Casualty”, “Only Fools and Horses” and ‘Grandstand”.
Following a one year break that included some travel to New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Mexico, Andrew then began working in London, Soho, for Framestore. At that time Framestore specialised in visual effects for commercials and TV programmes. In his 10 years in post-production at Framestore, Andrew worked on numerous commercials (Nationwide, The Sun, “Now, That’s..”) and TV programmes such as “Spitting Image”, “Friday Night Armistice”, and “League of Gentlemen”. He carried out visual finishing work on a host of 90’s TV series giving them a “filmic look” : “This Life”, “City Central”, “The Hello Girls”.
As a Film Editor at Framestore, Andrew Wilks edited the landmark BBC Science series “Walking With Dinosaurs”, for which he received an Emmy Nomination. He went on to edit subsequent “Walking With..” series for BBC and Impossible Pictures, gaining an RTS Team Award for “Walking With Beasts”.
As a freelance editor from 2003 onwards, Andrew worked again with Impossible Pictures, along with Darlow Smithson, Two Four Media, and commercials production agency Superfad, London.
